Solid Foundation Realty is located in Chula Vista and serves all of San Diego County.  David Hallett is the owner and broker.  David is an attorney practicing law with a primary emphasis on interpretation and analysis of contracts.  Upon graduating law school, magna cum laude, and passing the California Bar Exam in 2002, David and his wife Jaime began to consider a home purchase.  They lived in Pacific Beach and enjoyed the beach lifestyle.  Their goal was to save for a few years and move to the suburbs to raise a family.

As many of you know firsthand, the market began to take off and by the time David and Jaime had saved some money, prices were rapidly getting beyond their means.  They entered the fray in 2004 and were being outbid on the condominiums they looked at by 60-70 thousand dollars!  David, with a degree in economics from the University of California at San Diego, thought this was crazy.  They worked with multiple agents at that time and each agent told them now was a great time to buy and that if they did not act fast and buy now, they would never own a home in San Diego.  The pressure to buy was astounding but David did not buy the hype and decided to sit on the sidelines for awhile.  Real estate became a passion for David and he read the San Diego and Chula Vista area real estate blogs, read real estate books, and studied real estate history and trends - all to figure out when would be the best time to buy.

Although David and Jaime were anxious to get settled, their Christian faith helped them during this time.  David and Jaime were (and are) actively involved with a Christian Church and trusted that all things would eventually work together for good.   Even though Christians seem to have a bad rap these days, as the owner, David feels it is important for a client to know that his Christian ideals are a model for how he conducts business.  Solid Foundation Realty seeks to work with people of all backgrounds and work with clients of all different beliefs.  Nonetheless, David seeks to incorporate the Christian ideals of honesty, integrity, hard work and ethical and kind treatment of all in his business.  Much like his faith, David believes that each home needs to be built on a Solid Foundation to thrive.

Although both David and Jaime were very frustrated and wanted to squeeze a home purchase into a specific time in their lives, they had faith it would all work out.  As such, they decided to sit on the sidelines and have their first child while they rented in Pacific Beach.  Ultimately, deciding to rent near Poway in the Scripps Ranch area rather than buy an overpriced home.  In 2006, David and Jaime were expecting their second child and the pressure for a home was overwhelming and they started to meet with agents again to see whether they could get a deal now that the bubble had popped.  Again, it was more of the same, “Never been a better time to buy, better get in now before the prices start to rise again – after all, San Diego is one of the most desirable places to live.”

At this point, David was fed up with real estate agents and decided he knew the Chula Vista and San Diego real estate markets as well or better than any of the agents he encountered and decided to become a real estate broker.  Becoming a broker paid off, and David aggressively sought the home they wanted at the price they were willing to pay and, even though it took several more years before they finally bought, they ended up setting the price comparables for the neighborhood!

The point of this background information is simply to tell you that Solid Foundation Realty is not your typical Chula Vista and San Diego area real estate company.  David created Solid Foundation Realty with a desire to avoid the same mold as the agents he was so frustrated with.  His goal was to develop a company where customer service and customer loyalty mean something.  A company where the agent seeks to give the best information to their client based on their experience and expertise and then to help the client find what they want at a price that they want.  Although David started his focus on buyers who shared a common experience with his frustrations, this honest and realistic approach serves the same purpose with sellers who were often misled as the bubble crashed on what they could get for their home – meanwhile each day that the property was priced incorrectly, they continued to lose money.  Honesty is critical with sellers as well and Solid Foundation Realty will tell you up front what we think your home is worth rather than inflate your expectations to get the listing contract and then, once the paperwork is signed, push you to lower the price!
